Ch 2: Classicism & Ancient Greece

Classicism—established in ancient Greece—is based on the principles of simplicity, clarity, balance, regularity, and harmonious proportion. As a style, it is characterized by reason, moderation, and dignity—ideals which, in time, were spread through most of the civilized world. This chapter provides an overview of ancient Greece, focusing on its geography and history, religion and philosophy, and literature and architecture.
