OER Policy at UTRGV

Currently, there are not any policies in place that directly support OER, but this work directly aligns with our institution’s mission and goals to lead the way in affordability, accessibility, and research.

There has been a rise in recognition of OER within Promotion and Tenure structures. Here are some resources to help you potentially align your OER work within these guidelines.

  • OER in Tenure and Promotion Matrix – This adaptable advisory model can help guide faculty as they attempt to include their OER work in their tenure and promotion portfolios. This model is in no way exhaustive and will likely be most useful as a way for faculty to start thinking about how to best fit their OER work into their local T&P guidelines. Although this document in its current form was created with individual faculty in mind, we encourage T&P committees themselves to adapt and edit this document to use as guidance for their faculty.
  • Valuing OER in the Tenure, Promotion, and Reappointment Process – This book of case studies is meant to aid faculty, librarians, administrators, and staff members as they attempt to make their work or others’ work on Open Educational Resources (OER) matter in the tenure, promotion, and reappointment process at their institutions.
  • OER in Promotion and Tenure within the UT System – The recognition of OER contributions in promotion and tenure is a key component of advancing the adoption of OER at UT institutions. The UT system has gathered resources to help faculty, departments, and colleges work to integrate OER into promotion and tenure policies and portfolios.
